According to the EU SILC MRC survey (Office of the Government Plenipotentiary for Roma Communities 2021), in 2020:<\/h6><h6>\u22d9 <strong>a total of 87 % of households in marginalised Roma communities (MRC) were at risk of poverty<\/strong><\/h6><h6>\u22d9 <strong>and 52 % faced severe material deprivation.<\/strong><\/h6><h6>These families have faced ethnic and social discrimination and multiple exclusion for decades, which has led to enormous burdens and toxic stress. This is experienced not only by parents but also by children from birth, which poses a risk to their development.<\/h6>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-9811e64 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"9811e64\" data-element_type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-ad231cf elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"ad231cf\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>In addition, many parents living in the MRC are not equipped with the parenting skills and knowledge to adequately support their children&#8217;s development from birth. The EU SILC survey also showed that <b>only 32 % of Roma children aged 3 to 6 years attended kindergarten<\/b>, compared to 87 % in the general population. It also aims to break down prejudices and raise awareness in society towards people from excluded Roma communities. Since 2015, we have been implementing the programme in cooperation with the Ekopolis Foundation in the Ko\u0161ice, Pre\u0161ov and Bansk\u00e1 Bystrica regions.   \t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-9f896ba e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"9f896ba\" data-element_type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-2093c14 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"2093c14\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h5 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">The Roma Community Development Programme has gone through four phases since 2015. <\/h5>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-0ef9a10 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"0ef9a10\" data-element_type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-bc76cc8 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"bc76cc8\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<ol><li>The first phase involved supporting various activities <b>to strengthen Roma inclusion at the local level<\/b>, including work on parenting skills for young parents, <b>creating livelihoods and supporting access to decent housing.<\/b><\/li><li>The second phase was about <b>supporting early childhood education and care for disadvantaged children<\/b>, as this was identified as one of the most important issues with a significant long-term impact on Roma inclusion.<\/li><li>The third stage focused on the<strong> sustainability of initiatives that support early childhood development<\/strong> in Slovakia.\u00a0<\/li><li>The aim of the fourth stage is to <b>achieve sustainable provision of quality early childhood education and care services<\/b> for children at risk of developmental delay across Slovakia.<\/li><\/ol>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-44f9e1e e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"44f9e1e\" data-element_type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-40bd90d elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"40bd90d\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h5 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Objectives we have been working on in the last 2 phases: <\/h5>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-3a96422 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"3a96422\" data-element_type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-5aee1f9 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"5aee1f9\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<ul>\n<li>\n<p><strong>Early Childhood Development <\/strong>\u2013 to support the education and care of young children who are developmentally at risk for bio-psycho-social reasons.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><strong><b>Strengthening the expertise and sustainability<\/b> of the capacity of NGOs <\/strong>providing early childhood education and care services.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Building the conditions for the <strong>creation of sustainable provision of early childhood education and care services <\/strong>not only for children from socially excluded backgrounds.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><strong>Creating a platform for Early Childhood Development<\/strong> that will bring together organisations, institutions, and academics.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><strong>Building the expertise of future early childhood development workers<\/strong> to understand the issues of Roma exclusion from society and integrated inclusive approaches in early childhood education.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><strong>Awareness-raising in mainstream society<\/strong>, in an attempt to achieve an understanding of diversity, to empathise with the situation of people from excluded communities and to try to look at it differently.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><strong>Promoting education and eliminating prejudice<\/strong> in secondary school students.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-d2c5a2e e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"d2c5a2e\" data-element_type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element activities:<\/h5>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-fb0bf18 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<ul><li><p><strong>We support training and expertise building of NGOs. <\/strong>In addition to financial support to work with children and their parents, we have supported organisations through educational opportunities. These have focused on quality early childhood development provision, but also on increasing the sustainability and organisational development of organisations.<\/p><\/li><li><p><strong>We have created <\/strong><strong>a training programme for pedagogy\/social work students<\/strong> at a selected university, which includes guest lectures and partnerships for placements in organisations providing early childhood development in marginalized Roma communities.<\/p><\/li><li><p><strong>We run <\/strong><strong>a professional web platform <a href=\"https:\/\/odperinky.sk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">odperinky.sk<\/a><\/strong>, which focuses on the topic of early childhood development and education support for children in excluded communities, as well as early childhood development support in general.<\/p><\/li><li><p>In collaboration with the Research Institute of Child Psychology and Pathopsychology, <strong>we have created<\/strong> <strong>a developmental measurement tool <\/strong>and have gradually improved it so that we can measure and improve early childhood education and care interventions.
