We have been delivering humanitarian aid to Ukraine since the outbreak of the war in February 2022. Together with the civic association Podaj ďalej and our wonderful volunteers, we travel not only to the western parts of the country, but also to the far north, to impoverished villages and small towns where humanitarian aid rarely reaches. From the start of the war through the end of 2024, we have helped more than 100,000 people in Ukraine. We delivered approximately 235 tons of material aid worth more than one million euros. We are continuing our humanitarian aid efforts in 2025, although we are making deliveries less frequently.
Important milestones
Drone attacks during a humanitarian mission
In the summer of 2025, we undertook another challenging humanitarian mission that took us once again to Chernihiv and Ripky, as well as to the city of Sumy in northeastern Ukraine, near the border with Russia. We delivered aid primarily in the form of medicines, medical supplies, disinfectants, and hygiene products to the district hospital in Ripky, as well as to a school and kindergarten in the same town, which has come to rely on our assistance. We also visited the municipal office in Khalavina, where we handed over the aid to the mayor, who then distributes it among the poorest residents of the village and the surrounding area mostly elderly people living alone. The Evangelical Church also helps us distribute aid in this region; we delivered most of the non-perishable food, hygiene supplies, and several generators to their headquarters.
The city of Sumy greeted us with heavy artillery fire and drone attacks. We delivered aid to a humanitarian warehouse as well as to a children’s hospital. We were once again accompanied by journalist Michal Frank, whose report you can read HERE. Read the interview with our director Laura Dittel, who drove the humanitarian delivery truck, HERE.
Humanitarian aid near the front lines
In November 2024, we traveled to remote regions near the front lines. Members of the media joined us to bring back to the public in Slovakia firsthand accounts of the conditions in which people in eastern Ukraine are living and why they still need help. Our route took us from Slovakia first to Odessa, but we delivered most of the material aid to Kherson, where intense fighting is still ongoing. The city’s residents therefore live in constant fear and under extremely difficult conditions. We delivered the aid to the Greek Catholic Church center, as well as to a shelter located beneath an apartment building that originally housed 50 families, and to other strategic locations from which it was further distributed to residents. Our final stop was in Mykolaiv, where local activists and military humanitarian workers—whose role is to provide aid to civilians—helped us with the distribution of aid. You can read journalist Michal Franko’s report HERE.
Fundraiser for a washing machine for the hospital in Ripky
In mid-February 2024, we undertook another humanitarian trip to the far north of Ukraine. One of the five vans carried a special shipment – a brand new industrial washing machine for the hospital in Ripky, which many generous donors contributed to during a campaign by our executive director Laura Dittel. Watch the video about what a single washing machine can change in a war HERE.
Documentary: Goodness Knows No Borders
In 2023, we created a short documentary titled “Goodness Knows No Borders.” The short film shows the role that friendship, humor, hope, and volunteers play in war. Volunteers who often travel to dangerous areas and risk their own lives. Watch it HERE.
